Royals announce 25-man roster

Today was the day for all Major League clubs to set their 25-man Opening Day rosters by the 3:00 p.m. (EDT) deadline.

The Royals purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Jamey Wright from Omaha and designated outfielder Shane Costa for assignment and now have 36 players on their 40-man roster.

Here’s the 2009 Opening Day roster for your Kansas City Royals:

PITCHERS (11) -Juan Cruz, Kyle Davies, Kyle Farnsworth, Zack Greinke, Ron Mahay (L), Gil Meche, Horacio Ramirez (L), Joakim Soria, Robinson Tejeda, Doug Waechter and Jamey Wright.

CATCHERS (3) – John Buck, Miguel Olivo and Brayan Pena.

INFIELDERS (7) – Mike Aviles, Billy Butler, Alberto Callaspo, Alex Gordon, Mike Jacobs, Tony Pena, Jr. and Mark Teahen.

OUTFIELDERS (4) – Willie Bloomquist, Coco Crisp, David DeJesus and Jose Guillen.
