Thursday lineup: Royals at Mariners

After an off day on Wednesday, the Royals head to Peoria today. Sidney Ponson takes the hill in his first official Cactus League outing. Ponson made a start last Saturday against the Mariners’ Triple-A squad. Today’s contest will be webcast on royals.com.

The Royals and Angels combined for 15 home runs on Sunday! Kansas City fell short on the scoreboard, but they still boast the second-best record among Cactus League teams, trailing only the Angels. The Bees get their rings

After a 30-39 start to the season, the Bees made a second half surge, going 43-26. Burlington went a perfect 6-0 in the playoffs to earn the league championship.

Sunday lineup; Gobble signs with Rangers

Kansas City pounded out 22 hits on Saturday in a 13-6 win over Arizona. Eight players had multiple hits.  The Royals have now scored 56 runs in their last six contests.

ATH would like to send out best wishes to Jimmy Gobble. The long-time Royal was waived by the club on Wednesday. Jimmy quickly landed with the Texas Rangers and will try to earn a bullpen spot on the other side of the Surprise Stadium complex.

Saturday lineup and a visit from Ali and Gretzky

The “Greatest of All Time” and the “Great One” were joined by a pair of MVP third sackers, George Brett and Joe Torre, for this picture. Very cool! Special thanks to former Chiefs kicker Nick Lowery, who helped coordinate Ali’s visit.

Today, the Royals have their second and final extended bus ride of the spring as they play the Diamondbacks in Tucson.

Open house on April 5; Mini Golf photos

The Royals will host a special open house on April 5 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

During the open house, fans will be able to tour at leisure the entire Plaza Level and new Outfield Experience area, getting a first-hand look at the expanded concourses, new concession and retail locations, and all the entertainment options in the outfield including interactive games for kids and a main stage for pre- and post-game parties.  All interactive games and activities in the Outfield Experience, such as the John Deere Little K, Sluggerrr’s Mini Golf presented by The Golf Stop and the new Kauffman Stadium Carousel, will be free during the open house.   In addition, the club will be offering group tours of the renovated Loge and View Levels. 

Throughout the stadium, fans will have a chance to taste the newest flavors of Kauffman Stadium as featured concessions will be available at discounted prices, including a special menu of $1 and $2 items.  Select retail areas will also be open for those wanting to purchase the latest Royals merchandise.

Parking and admittance to the open house is free to all fans, but a ticket is required for entrance into the stadium.  Fans may secure tickets for the event by visiting the Kauffman Stadium Box Office on the day of the event, April 5, beginning at 9 a.m.

Friday lineup: Aviles back from WBC

The Royals play their second consecutive night game this evening against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Tonight’s game will be televised on FSKC (check your local listings) and is a late addition to the radio schedule (610 Sports in Kansas City). Mike Aviles returns to the lineup after representing Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic. Aviles last played in a Royals uniform on February 28. Joakim Soria is on the list of available pitchers. Soria played for Mexico in the WBC and has pitched just once in a Royals uniform this spring. Here’s your lineup:

Carousel Preview

 

Carousel 1.JPGConstruction on Kauffman Stadium’s Outfield Experience is entering its final stages. Over the winter, we brought you photos of the carousel figures as they were being carved by hand. Now, the carousel is being installed! The frame of the carousel is in place and the figures will be installed soon.

 

  

Here’s a sneak peak…our final photo is a batting helmet at the new mini golf course – you can see the carousel frame in the background.
