Royals in the community: City Union Mission

Frank_White.jpgOn Friday, front office associates joined Royals Hall of Fame second baseman Frank White, outfielder David DeJesus, GM Dayton Moore and Senior Vice President-Business Operations Kevin Uhlich to serve a Thanksgiving feast at City Union Mission’s two area facilities. This is the third straight year that the Royals have partnered with the mission.

Founded in 1924, City Union Mission has provided warm beds, nutritious food and a safe place for thousands of poverty stricken and homeless men, women and children in the Kansas City area. The facilities rely solely on support from individuals, churches, foundations, organizations and businesses. For more information on how you can become involved with City Union Mission, visit

First time on this blog. Nice! I’m a Yankee fan and followed the team in ’07 for a book I was writing. During the series in KC, I really enjoyed the scoreboard game the Royals play with the fans. I think it’s called “And the Oscar goes to…” where a movie scene is shown and then three players re-enact it and the fans choose the player they thought did the best job. It’s really fun and, compared to the scoreboard games of other teams, far superior. Are they planning to keep doing it?

Thank you for your comment. We’re glad that you enjoyed your trip to Kauffman Stadium. “And the Oscar goes to…” was not featured in 2008, but we are always looking at new ways to incorporate the players into game entertainment. In 2008, we unveiled CrownVision, our new HD video board. We hope you can come to another game to check it out!
