Teahen's Busy Week…

When you factor in workouts and travel and holidays and Royals FanFest (Jan. 18-19) and a Royals Caravan trip to Nebraska and Iowa (Jan. 21-23), Mark Teahen’s offseason schedule – especially in the next couple weeks! – seems pretty busy. Well, apparently not busy enough for Teahen, who is adding a couple more things to the calendar

First…this Tuesday (Jan. 15) at 3 p.m. (CT), Teahen is participating in the next Royals Relay Chat on royals.com. The Royals outfielder will log-on to answer fans’ questions about the upcoming season, his thoughts on the addition of Manager Trey Hillman, what he sees for the future of the organization, what he has been doing this offseason…

Speaking of what Teahen has been up to…

On Thursday, Jan. 17, he is hosting the “Mark Teahen…Challenge Your Fashion” fashion show. Yes, you read that right. Mark Teahen – baseball player, Royals outfielder, 26-year-old bachelor – is hosting a fashion show and, here’s the best part: he roped his teammates into being his fashion models! The event benefits the YMCA of Greater Kansas City Challenger Division Baseball Program, a program that many of you know Mark takes very seriously here in Kansas City.

Teahen has been the Challenger spokesperson for the past few seasons, participating in clinics, helping to organize fundraisers and even donning a hardhat and shovel to help break ground in 2006 for the Challenger Sports Complex – a custom-designed field that will accommodate wheelchairs and other assistive devices. So, it is really no huge surprise that Mark was able to get teammates Billy Butler, David DeJesus, Joey Gathright, Esteban German, Alex Gordon, Zack Greinke, Mark Grudzielanek, Luke Hudson, Gil Meche, Tony Pena, Jr., and Ryan Shealy to trade in their baseball uniforms for some fashions from Halls all in the name of Challenger.

For those interested in attending this fashion show (either for the fashions or the “models”), you can contact Michelle Ford at the YMCA of Greater Kansas City at either (816) 360-3304 or michelle-ford@ymca-kc.org to purchase tickets – space is limited! Again, the event is on Thursday, Jan. 17 at the Overland Park Convention Center. The show begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner and an auction to follow.

I just love how my $10 fanfest ticket ended up costing me $16 after order processing fees, convenience fees, and a $2 charge to use my ink and print my own ticket. It’s all automated, why are we being charged to reduce your workload. What really irritates me is that this extra $6 doesn’t go to Royals charities, it just goes to line the pockets of those that don’t need it.

I couldn’t agree more!!! Kinda like that commercial where the lady gets charged for her own flowers.
