Breaking Ground for 2008
Just three days following the conclusion of the 2007 season, the Royals showed that progress in the organization is taking place in more places than just on the field. On Wednesday, we wasted no time breaking ground on the new Kauffman Stadium, a renovation project that is set to be complete by Opening Day 2009!
The Kauffman Stadium Renovation Groundbreaking ceremony took place on home plate in front of several hundred Royals fans and had everyone from owner David Glass to Royals mascot Sluggerrr picking up a shovel. The ceremony was coupled with our annual season-ticket holder party – making this year’s post-season event one of the largest and most energetic we have hosted.
Taking advantage of the beautiful weather, the well-attended event welcomed nearly 4,000 season-ticket holders out to The K from 2-7 p.m. As we guided fans through the clubhouses, out to the Little K, onto the field for catch, over to the Brancato’s Bullpen for some BBQ and through the table of items in the annual end-of-the-season Garage Sale, we couldn’t help but put our offseason blues – yes, we get sad when the team’s not here – to the side and get pumped up for what’s in store for 2008!
