Minor Leaguers Visit NLBM

Signing1_adjusted_1It was “the future meeting the future” Friday morning at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City, Mo., according to Royals Farm Director J.J. Picollo.

Before heading to Kauffman to participate in Futures Night, 15 Royals minor league players (Royals starter/Omaha Pitcher of the Year Billy Buckner took the morning off) dropped by the NLBM for a tour and a meet-and-greet with some eighth grade students from Satchel Paige Elementary School. The players, who represent this year’s Royals Minor League Player and Pitchers of the Year, were introduced to the students as the “future” of the franchise. However, after the player intros, J.J. quickly pointed out that the guys were also meeting the future – the “future” of the community. Signing2_adjusted

Tonight, the minor league players will receive their awards, take in some batting practice and sign autographs for fans (5:15-6 p.m.) as part of the Royals Future Night. Thanks to NLBM’s Bob Kendrick, the NLBM and the students from Satchel Paige for showing the minor leaguers a Kansas City beyond Kauffman Stadium!
