Futures Night at Kauffman
Did you know a Royals minor leaguer led all pitchers in his league with wins this season? Do you know who that Royals minor leaguer is?**
Answer: Rowdy Hardy – the often-talked about Royals prospect – led Class A Wilmington in the Carolina League with 15 wins in 2007. He also finished with a 2.48 ERA and walked just 16 batters in 167 innings. Not surprisingly, the left-hander was named not only the Wilmington Pitcher of the Year, but also the Carolina League Pitcher of the Year.
Now, it’s no crystal ball, but the Royals Futures Night provides a pretty good look into what fans have to look forward to in the years to come. Last year, Alex Gordon, Zack Greinke, Mario Lisson, Carlos Rosa, Shane Costa and Rowdy – who took home the award last year for his pitching at Idaho Falls – were among the minor leaguers involved in Futures Night. This year, the list is just as impressive…
On Friday, Sept. 28, the Royals welcome Rowdy and the other award winners from each of the club’s eight minor league affiliates to Kauffman Stadium. Along with getting their Player and Pitcher of the Year awards, the minor leaguers will participate in a pre-game autograph session (5:15-6 p.m.) as well as a Q&A chat for fans from 6-6:20 p.m., all at Gate B. Then the group will take in some Royals baseball in the big league stadium they look forward to playing in some day soon.
Just to recap, here are the Minor League award winners for this season (check out their stats here) that will be at Kauffman Stadium this Friday:
- OMAHA – RHP Billy Buckner and INF Mike Aviles
- WICHITA – LHP Dusty Hughes and 1B Mike Stodolka

ALSO…Another prospect that will be seen around The K this weekend: Royals 2007 First-Year Player Draft selection Mike Moustakas. Moose will be meeting fans at the autograph session on Friday as well as attending Saturday’s game. If you get a chance to meet him (and you should because tickets are still available), then give him a big KC welcome to the organization!
