Bannister Named Top A.L. Rookie…Again
Well, he did it again.
Yup, Royals pitcher Brian Bannister took home A.L. Rookie of the Month honors for August – the second time in three months he has claimed the award. Bannister also won in June, while teammate Billy Butler took home the award in July to give the Royals three straight A.L. Rookie of the Month award winners. Banny, who went 4-1 with a 2.90 ERA in six August starts, is the first two-time winner of the A.L. Award this season. He allowed just 13 runs on 41 hits in 40.1 innings with nine walks and 16 strikeouts in the month.
Bannister is currently considered to be one of the leading candidates for A.L. Rookie of the Year since he is posting a 12-7 mark with a 3.16 ERA this season. He already kicked September off to a good start by tossing eight innings of one-run baseball in his start Sunday (Sept. 2) – a performance that helped the Royals secure an 8-1 win over the Twins. His next scheduled start is Saturday night at Kauffman Stadium against the Yankees…tickets are still available.
