Lineups: Bannister, Moose Win Big

Last night’s 3-2, 11th-inning win over Seattle marked our first extra-inning win at Kauffman Stadium since Aug. 24, 2005. Meche and the Royals bullpen (Greinke, Soria and Dotel, mainly) combined to toss a beautiful game from the mound. And, hopefully, De La Rosa can follow suit tonight and get things rolling again for the Royals. DLR (5-9, 5.38 ERA) faces Seattle’s Ryan Feierabend (1-2, 6.46 ERA), an up-from-the-minors-down-to-the-minors pitcher for the Mariners who has just a handful of big league starts under his belt.

Before getting to the lineups, some congrats need to go out to a couple of guys…first, Royals starter Brian Bannister, who captured A.L. Rookie of the Month honors for the month of June. The award is more than deserving since Bannister posted a 5-1 mark with a 2.75 ERA in six starts during the month. He struck out 27 batters in just 39.1 innings pitched and won four straight decisions from June 1-17. It’s his first Rookie of the Month honor and the first time a Royals rookie has nabbed the award since Berroa in 2003.

Next, we need to mention that Mike “Big Moose” Moustakas, our first round selection in June’s First-Year Player Draft, has been named the High School Player of the Year by Baseball America. Check out the story here. According to the press release, Moose, the two-time L.A. City Section Player of the Year, becomes just the second player from California to win the honor and joins Major Leaguers Trot Nixon (Indians), Joe Mauer (Twins) and Scott Kazmir (D-Rays) as winners of the award. Seems like all that is left for him to do is sign with us…right? Here are today’s lineups.
