Greensburg Kids Visit The K
Youth – and a handful of adult chaperones – from Greensburg, Kan., were guests of honor at Kauffman Stadium Sunday to watch the Royals’ 17-5 pounding of Philadelphia. The group, which totaled nearly 50 people in size, was honored on the field during the Royals pre-game ceremonies before settling into their seats along the first base line for the game.
Prior to the on-field recognition, the kids enjoyed their lunch – Thanks, Pizza Hut! – from a dugout suite, while also chatting with a couple of guys in Royals uniforms – Manager Buddy Bell, pitcher Gil Meche and outfielder Reggie Sanders – who just had to say hi. As you can see, the 15-minute meet-and-greet gave the visitors some much-needed smiles!
The visit to Kauffman Stadium is just one part of a Royals reach-out relief effort that has taken place to help the residents of Greensburg, which was devastated by a tornado on May 4. Since hearing the news of the damage, the Royals have worked closely with Heart to Heart International to host an in-stadium drive, plan a goodwill trip to the area. Royals Charities, the charitable arm of the Royals, also provided a $25,000 contribution to the relief effort.
