Lineups: Meche vs. Lieber

The Royals look to build off their 8-4 win last night when they face the Phillies for the second of three games at The K this weekend. The Royals are 3-1 against the National League this season with Gil Meche taking the ball tonight against Philadelphia’s Jon Lieber.

Did You Know?: The Royals selected Lieber in the second round of the 1992 June draft. He never played in a Royals uniform though, getting traded to Pittsburgh a year later.

“Little Leo” Night: Royals Hall of Fame pitcher Dennis Leonard is out at the ballpark tonight, signing autographs in honor of his bobblehead night. Stop by and visit him on top of the Royals dugout.

Two Teams, One Goal: The Royals were up early this morning, handing out food on the corner of 30th and Troost. Mike Sweeney, Reggie Sanders, Scott Elarton, Brandon Duckworth, Mark Teahen, Brian Bannister and Tony Pena, Jr., joined Sluggerrr and more than 200 volunteers for the seventh annual Royals and Chiefs Operation Blessing: Two Teams, One Goal. Big Dave: David DeJesus went 3-for-5 in last night’s game with a double, RBI and run scored…he is now a .344 (56-for-163) career hitter in Interleague play – tied for the fifth highest among all active players with 150 or more at-bats.

More on Draft: In the First Year Player Draft, the Royals selected 17 players out of high school and 33 from the college ranks, including 10 from the junior colleges. Among the 50 players, here’s the position-by-position breakdown: 25 pitchers (21 right-handers, four left-handers), six catchers, 12 infielders and seven outfielders.
