Lineups: Royals Wives Silent Auction Tonight

The Royals (19-28) are looking to bring out the brooms tonight against the Indians (27-17). Chances are good given that we’ve won eight of our last 10 games – the best record in the league during that span – and we are due for some sweeping this season. We turn to Kauffman Stadium pitching machine Jorge De La Rosa (4-3, 3.59 ERA), who is 3-1 with a 2.39 ERA in four Kansas City-based starts this season. Here are some notes, reminders and lineups. Enjoy…

BID ON BASEBALLS, BATS, JERSEYS AND MORE: Don’t forget your check books for tonight’s game. Before the game and in between innings, from 5:30-8:30 p.m., the Royals Wives will be in the concourse between sections 101 and 102 running a Silent Auction to raise money for Harvesters. Here’s a small sampling of what you can bid on: David Ortiz autographed ball, Johan Santana autographed ball, Billy Butler autographed bat, Royals helmet signed by the entire 2007 team, Royals autographed lineup card from the May 2 game, Grudzielanek Gold Glove autographed photo and Gil Meche Opening Day autographed photo. Some pretty good items, right? For the complete list, click here.

FROM THE GAME NOTES: Last night’s win gave the Royals a six-game Wednesday winning streak. Since dropping their first two hump day battles against the Red Sox and Blue Jays, the Royals have posted Wednesday wins in succession in Detroit, in Minnesota, here over the Angels and A’s, last Wednesday in Oakland, then last night.

KAEGEL IN THE HOUSE: We all knew this day was coming soon because we saw **** Kaegel, who has been absent from the press box all season, drifting in and out of the press club dining room during the last homestand. Well, no more waiting, royals.com readers: Mr. Kaegel is back at work as the Royals MLB.com writer tonight and we couldn’t be happier to see him. Welcome back, **** – we’ve missed you!

GORDON AIMS HIGH: Heard Alex Gordon on 810 WHB’s “The Program with Soren Petro” today. Any guesses on how many career home runs Gordon said he’d hit?…Without hesitation, he confidently answered, “500.” That’s a number that will put another Royal in the Hall of Fame and, after last night, only 497 to go!

HOT AGAINST THE LEFTIES: The Royals face left-hander Jeremy Sowers tonight. We started the season 0-10 against southpaws, but have since won our last three straight games when opposed by a left-handed starter.

AND…FOOD DRIVE REMINDER: Canned foods wanted. As well as: plastic jars of peanut butter, pastas fruits and vegetables. Basically, any non-perishable, “kid-friendly” food item you can think of or find in your cupboard is welcomed as we celebrate 25 years of the Royals Wives hosting the Royals Wives Food Drive. From 5-7:30 p.m., the Wives will be at Gates A and B Friday, May 25 (psst…tomorrow!) to collect items and cash donations for Harvesters – Kansas City’s only food bank.
