Buck Continues to be Honored

On Wednesday night, a handful of us from the front office attended the book launch party of The Soul of Baseball: A Road Trip Through Buck O’Neil’s America, written by KC Star sports columnist Joe Posnanski. The book, which hits stores this week, details a summer spent traveling the country with Buck.

Held at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, the event quickly turned from a simple book signing to a full-fledged tribute to Buck, equipped with live music, several Buck stories, adventures and memories, Buck_oneil_legacy_seat_logo_1plus a $10,000 donation to the John "Buck" O’Neil Education and Research Center – Buck’s greatest passion. No big surprise to anyone, Buck O’Neil is missed around this city!

In fact, since we announced the Buck O’Neil Legacy Seat Program in January, we are finding out first hand just how many people looked up to Buck. The nominations have been pouring in to fill Buck’s seat at Kauffman Stadium with members of the community who strive to live their lives as Buck had. As we inch closer to Opening Day – April 2 vs. Boston – we encourage everyone to keep sending in those nomination forms, found at royals.com, to help us honor Buck.
